Outlook Data file Extension—

1). OST (Offline Storage Table)

2). PST (Personal Storage Table)

Offline Storage Table—

It is outlook data file that use to view E-mail in offline mode. OST file allow you to work even when we are no connected to server, when we get online it will synchronize itself.

Size limit of PST & OST-

Outlook 2010 – 2016 ———- 50GB (PST)

                                                         2GB (OST)

Outlook 2007 —-      20GB (PST)

PATH OF OST & PST:-

OST PATH = C/USER/USERNAME/APPDATA/LOCAL/MICROSOFT/OUTLOOK/ID

PST PATH = C/USER/USERNAME/DOCUMENT/OUTLOOK/FILE/MY OUTLOOK DATA FILE.PST

 

·       Personal Storage Table—

It is outlook data file that store E-mail locally. It is not created by MS Outlook it is created by the user itself to store E-mails, contact, calendar entries etc.

  • GAL (Global Address List) —

It is a database that contain user account groups & contact can be fetch globally.

  • Distribution List—

In an E-mail application (DL) is a group of E-mail residence that is address as single residence. DL are used to send E-mail to group of a people without having entry each residence individual address.

  • OAB- (Offline address book)

An offline address book is  downloaded copy of a microsoft outlook user’s address list which allows the user access to email address when disconnect from exchange server.

  • ARCHIVE

It is secondary mail box that is used to move old email from primary mail box.

  • Different between POP3 VS IMAP

POP3

The only thing the POP3 does it download the E-mail to your device from the server. In POP3 the E-mail is deleted on the mail server once it’s download to a device.

It doesn’t synchronize the folder.

IMAP

Of the two, IMAP is the better option – and the recommended option – when you need to check your emails from multiple devices, such as a work laptop, a home computer, or a tablet, smart phone, or other mobile device. … POP3 downloads email from a server to a single computer, then deletes it from the server.
